Harvest Day!

See full size imageOn Monday, October 31st we will be celebrating Harvest Day! Children can come dressed in costumes and have fun parading around the block.  Please if your child's costume has a mask do not allow them to wear it to school.  We do not want to scare any of the other children in the school.

If you would like to bring in anything to share with the other students in the class, you are more then welcome.  Some of the things that we need are juice, chips, candy, cups, plates, and napkins.  Please let me know what you are bringing in so that we do not have doubles. We will be having a party in the afternoon at 2:15 if you would like to join, please let me know in advance. I am looking forward to spending this fun day with your children.  If you would like to come watch us parade around the block, the parade will start at 9:45.

Germs!

Happy Fall! With the change of the weather many of the students have been getting sick .  Even though the weather is beginning to change, we are still mandated to go outside for an hour everyday.  Please send your children with hats, gloves, and scarfs if the weather is chilly in the morning.
Also to stay away from germs please help your children to wash thier hand before eating and also after blowing thier noses.  When sneezing show them how to sneeze into their elbows instead of into thier hands.  These are all things that we are working on in the classroom.  Children catch colds easier then adults, so please if your child has a runny nose or is coughing keep them home so they can get some rest.  Here is a website that gives some suggestions on how to keep germs from spreading both for you and your child, Prevent Germs From Spreading

Pumpkins!

The trip to the farm was a success!  Thank you to the parents who came and helped out!  This week we will now be talking about what is inside a pumpkin and what we can do with pumpkins.  Some of the questions that you can ask your children are, "What do you think you will find inside the pumpkin?", "What can we make with the pumpkin?", "What are pumpkins used for?"
As a class we will be investigating the pumpkin and exploring what is inside the pumpkin. They will get to touch the mushy things inside and as well as the seeds.  They will be asked to use thier describing words to explain what they see and how it feels. Here is a link for you to use to see what you can do with your children using the pumpkin they picked from the farm, Lots to do with Pumpkins!

Jumpstart's Read for the Record

I want to thank you all for participating in Jumpstart's Read for the Record on Thursday! Jumpstart's Read for the Record helps to provide books, supplies, and a proven program to children in low-income neighborhoods.  By reading "Llama, Lama, Red Pajama" we have helped to raise awareness for a great cause and share with our students how important reading is! The students had a great time listening to the story "Llama, Llama Red Pajama." They all were so excited to wear their pajamas to school just like Llama does in the story.  Here is a link to where you can learn more about the program, Jumpstart Read for the Record.
