MeBooks

MeBooks is an IPad app that allows children to record their voices within the story. Playing with books is a brilliant way for children to develop their language and literacy.  The stories in this app are brought to life by narrators and have special sound effects.   It also allows you to add narration, use pictures to create your own part of the story, and add certain words to help new readers.  You can save up to three different versions of a story allowing children at different levels to view the story at the level that they are on.

Online Storytime!

Online Storytime is provided by Barnes and Noble.  It provides children with well known books that are either read by the authors or various celebrities.  The pictures of the book are displayed on the screen while the narrator reads the book.  There is always one book that is featured for the month, but children can choose from a library of books.  The website also provides other books that the author has written in case you wish to purchase books by that author.  You can access this website through a computer, smart phone, or IPad.

Great IPad App!

The Montessori Crosswords App is a great app for preschool students up to 4th grade.  It is based off of the Montessori learning method and helps students to develop their reading, writing, and spelling skills.  It  helps students to understand that words are made up of sounds or phonemes. For each word, the students can touch the empty rectangles where letters must be dragged to complete the word, and hear the sound the corresponding letter produces. It also helps students to memorize the phonics associated with letters by providing a phonics-enabled alphabet where kids can touch each letter and hear the associated phonic.

This app would work great in my classroom.  Many of the students are beginning to identify the beginning sounds of letters.  This app will allow them to connect words that start with those beginning sounds.
